Chadwicks to support New Ross family on DIY SOS

Aug 10, 2021 | Press Releases

Chadwicks is delighted to provide support to the Aylward family in New Ross in the upcoming series of DIY: SOS The Big Build Series 2. As the exclusive building materials supplier for the season, Chadwicks will support the Aylwards by providing essential products and materials as they prepare to take on one of DIY SOS’ biggest challenges – building a brand new, fully accessible home for the family.

Johnny Aylward lives in a rented home with his wife Lynn and their two sons, Daire (8) and Mikey (6). Last November, 56-year old Johnny was shockingly diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease which in turn has made their rental home unsuitable for his imminent occupational needs. In addition to Johnny’s diagnosis, Lynn is also the full-time carer for their youngest son Daire who has non-verbal autism. With the support of Johnny’s three older children Kelley, Colin and Aaron, as well as Lynn’s young adult sons Cian and Aaron, who also live in the New Ross home, the entire family is keen to rally together during this difficult time. The family is seeking help from the DIY SOS team to provide long-term security and build a brand-new home in New Ross that will fulfil the accessibility needs of the entire family.

Due to the location of the build, Chadwicks will be taking their support one step further for the Aylwards and hosting the first on-site pop-up shop to provide essentials materials, tools and services for their brand-new home. With community at the heart of the Chadwicks ethos, the entire team will be on hand to support Baz and the crew to build the Aylward’s new family home as well as at other locations across the country this summer, as they aim to transform each home to cater for the families’ specific needs. Offering both expertise and assistance for the various builds, Chadwicks will provide a selection of materials including doors and floors, insulation, plasterboard, paint supplies, roof windows, steel, timber and hardwood.

Commenting on the new partnership is Tony Duggan, Branch Manager at Chadwicks Kilkenny: “Chadwicks Kilkenny is thrilled to be involved in such an important cause in helping the Aylwards create their new family home. DIY: SOS The Big Build is an incredible show that helps some of Ireland’s most deserving families and we are delighted to support Johnny and Lynn during this difficult journey that they are facing. Community is very much at the heart of Chadwicks and we are privileged to play a role in helping them to create their dream home.”

Now in its second series, DIY SOS: The Big Build has gained national acclaim for its inspiring renovations for families in need. In each episode an army of volunteer builders, labourers, tradespeople, suppliers, friends and neighbours come together to give their time and labour to support a local family.

DIY SOS: The Big Build Series 2 will air on RTÉ in March 2022.
